about

This song, like so many others, was written in the aftermath of the end of a relationship. I wrote and recorded it in the weeks following. It's about paying attention to the nature of any relationship and understanding your wants and needs before committing to it. It's about honesty, realization, and coming to terms with reality. This is the first song I have recorded in almost two years, and it has been a thrilling reentry into the art.

lyrics

I've had my heart broke more times than I know how to say
I made lots of friends and I casually tossed them away
I lived in a world that was nothing but dullness and gray
And I told myself there was no harm in running away

Chorus:
I didn't notice
All of my actions were constantly scrutinized
I didn't notice
My heart tell my head it was living inside a lie
I didn't notice
There was this great, big, wide world that I couldn't see
I didn't notice
That beautiful woman was smiling at me

I wore my heart on my sleeve and the buttons fell off
It rolled on the floor and got stepped on by everyone
And you picked it up and we shared some familiar words
And I didn't know what I missed, but that night I learned

Chorus:
I didn't notice
How much of a man I could possibly be
I didn't notice
When you roll in my sheets you were falling in love with me
I didn't notice
Every day I'm a little more young
I didn't notice
There's a million more songs that I haven't yet sung

You built me a body and mind and heart of clay
And threw it in water and watched as I scattered away

Chorus:
I didn't notice
All of my actions were constantly scrutinized
I didn't notice
My heart tell my head it was living inside a lie
I didn't notice
When you roll in my sheets you were falling in love with me
I didn't notice
How much of a man I could possibly be
